Issana Yaguda

I am an opera singer who has had the joy of traveling to countries such as Italy, Austria, and the Czech Republic, where I have experienced the beauty and music of their spoken languages.  As a singer who performs in five different languages, it was important for me to articulate each foreign language precisely so that my native-speaking audience could understand me.

While performing in Gianni Schicchi in Lucca, Italy, I experienced total immersion in the Italian language. That experience showed me both how challenging it can be to learn a foreign language and how rewarding it is to articulate it well enough to communicate effectively. It deepened my appreciation for language, culture, and the satisfaction that comes from being truly understood.

I graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music for Voice.  I also earned a Master of Music degree for Voice from the Jacobs School of Music, a globally renowned conservatory.

While there, I studied vocal pedagogy, which involves the anatomy and physiology of voice production.  I learned this to improve not only my own singing but to teach others how to sing and articulate a specific language while doing so.  I apply this knowledge when coaching my clients to articulate Standard American English.  My interest in foreign accents/languages led me to become certified in the P-ESL Accent Modification system to assist my clients in their journey to become better understood as they communicate in American English.

For my public speaking clients, I apply acting and body relaxation techniques, such as the Alexander Technique, that I have used while performing various roles in operas.  Additionally, I address the importance of the type of public speaking that they are engaged in, whether it be informative, motivational, or demonstrative speaking, to name a few.  Each type has its own challenges, but when done correctly, it provides its own rewards.
